A Chair Shaped Object (300 coats of paint)

Art, Music, Literature and other non-yogurty cultured things.

Unfortunately the chairs will not be in the show. I Was hoping they would, and when I showed one to the curator in person she got all excited, but then changed her mind.
I was planning on painting them BRIGHT RED for the apocralypse, but this copper stuff is pretty cool.
Also, the smaller chair (the one in the picture) is going to get cut in half, either on, or shortly after the end of the world. The fate of the bigger chair has not yet been decided.

One obvious idea comes to mind.
Keep painting it until all the corners and edges have blended together, keep painting it further until it's an egg shape. Then cut it in half to show the hidden meaning and profoundness. Or rather, not really in half, offset to one side a bit so the cut goes through the chair legs and it appears as a chair rather than a meaningless L-shape.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

Yes--listen to the German. Don't stop. Ever. Be the crazy artist who turned a chair into an object that rivals the size and magesty of the world's largest rubberband ball. Then saw it in half, immolate it,, then start the project alll over again on a chromed out douchecanoe. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I just realized the other day that our own metalredneck is the one who suggested cutting it open at the END OF DAYS.
The smaller chair is going to get sliced open either on the solstice, or maybe a week later. Gonna let the paint set for a week or so, maybe that will make a difference. Not sure.
The bigger chair may just be left to cure for another year, or I may keep painting it, haven't decided.
I definitely do want to start another project this year on te solstice. Possibly a wooden sculpture I found a little while ago. Looks like some kind of angel stading on a dog. (?) or something, I'll post a pic, maybe one of you guys will recognize it as some pop comic pokemon yugigo transformer power ranger fanboy somethingorother.

The larger chair may get something like that. I was thinking maybe just hog a couple of big holes out with a hole saw.
Or something.

I don't know what I like bettter--the photography or the chair itself. Either way, it looks like some loooming Easter Island/Chairhenge thing going.

Better and better, Piccini.

Thanks, I'm really digging the digital camera thing. I kinda want to get a real SLR for next year, but I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon. At this point it looks like the next project is going to be PAZUZU, the wood carving I found by the side of he road.
It will involve a Lazy Suzan, and maybe some kind of video. Not sure about the videography, but I know some people locally who may be able to help me out.

Updates, and next years project to follow shortly. Pazuzu is, for a variety of reasons, not going to happen.

New chair (curbside score) to be painted a different color every day. I have a short calisthenics routine that I will be performing every time I paint it, and will try to get away with not shaving for a whole year. (The shaving thing may need to be seasonal in the interest of domestic tranquility.) I'm about 235lbs in this picture. The idea is to metamorphose from the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man into some kinda Grizzly Adams character.
This friday the smaller of the two original chairs will meet the band-saw.
