Re: Hey DG!!
Thanks.
I feel particularly obliged to commemorate this day. Because here, people act outright disgusting.
For Jerries, a day of celebration. On November 11th, at 11:11AM, the carnival season is opened.
There is no actual religious or tradition reason to do it on this day. In the 19th century and before, carnival season began on epiphany, January 6th.
I don't know that it was moved to this day for distraction. But I can't help wondering that a lot of people prefer it that way.

If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I'd hate to be so conspiratorial, but Bread and circuses perhaps?

Oh, you mean moving the beginning of Carnival to November 11th. Nah.
We got plenty of circuses. You could hand out circuses and stage bread six days outta the week and still let folk go to church on Sunday.
No, moving that once-a-year event to a special date that's otherwise relevant. That means you'd prefer people at your event, rather than the other one. Or you personally would rather not be reminded of the stuff that the date in question is all about.
I've tried my best trying to find out when they moved it to 11/11. Was actually unable to find anything. I guess it's part of the everyday culture to the extent that "everybody knows that", and changes aren't much recorded.
If they moved it after WW1. I can't find any rational reason why someone would want to have it on 11/11, except so as to have a ball, rather than remember the dead. And perhaps specifically to give a finger to all those other countries.
Also, Bill, look at the page in full screen on a proper computer. Do it before November 12.
