... but seriously, you don't even need to go as far as a 'wing, or a BMW RT model, to find a bike that's more sophisticated and complex than a 2CV. And it always had an air-cooled flat-twin as an engine, and I'm German. Air cooled flat-twin = 'cycle. The wily French have just built a few with an excessive number of wheels.
Among the latter group of almostcycles, the 2CV stands out as most perfect, I think. I don't know who said it, but "Perfection is not achieved when you lave nothing more you can add - but when there is nothing left you can leave out". Might have been Colin Chapman. It does go ever so well with "Simplify - and add lightness".
Short of cutting in half the number of wheels, there is nothing one can remove from the 2CV and still let it be a useful vehicle. Certainly, I can't see anything one can leave out and still have a useful car. Well, except maybe a radio (though having traffic news and some tunes is, imo, a dire necessity) or the fancy, modern, padded seats. The original prototype had just two tubes with a bit of cloth, deckchair-style.
But apart from that. No ac. Not even a fan. Instead, flaps under the windscreen, and a "roof" that'll roll up. No wind-down windows, either. Two-cylinder air-cooled engine, some sheet metal, and a suspension that will let it travel over a freshly-plowed field at 40kph with a basket of eggs on the passenger seat, and none of the eggs breaking. While the driver is in wooden shoes.
But, it is the tradition, or an old charter, or something. Someone will take an old bike and put a new bike engine in it. Same with an almostcycle. And where else to get a new flat twin than from BMW. Though with about twice as many camshafts and oil-cooling, obviously.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.
Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.
To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

First fix:
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

I still want to see someone take an old Triumph TR7 and stuff a Rocket III engine in it.

Considering the engine layout, I would like to see someone take an Indian/Henderson Four and swap in a Rocket III engine.Jaeger wrote:I still want to see someone take an old Triumph TR7 and stuff a Rocket III engine in it.
