Important infos about cookies

To be remembered, you must have cookies enabled in your browser. Some people prefer using "private" browsing mode - which precludes cookies being placed on your device in the first place.
Some people use regular browsing mode, but may have chosen to disable all cookies in their settings. Sometimes, these people will end up tearing their hair out because a lot of websites just don't work at all, like many online stores, as many e-commerce platforms don't do bugger all without using cookies.
Me, I've got "Self-Destructing Cookies" plugins in my various browsers. Which lets me accept all cookies everywhere, smug in the knowledge that they will be deleted the instant I close that browser tab. I can even set it to delete the cookies only when I close the whole browser window, which is helpful with online stores.
And I can whitelist sites like the board, so the plugin doesn't mess with those cookies at all.
And you must use the same browser, on the same machine. Unless you're using something like a cookie manager that syncs to all your devices and things, your apple browser on your ipad won't have the delicious cookies chrome has on your PC. And unless google now manages cookies between your devices (who knows what the fuck they do), even chrome on your Android won't have the same cookies as chrome on your notebook, or chrome on your other Android.

If you've visited the forum at any time after November 18, 2020, you will have seen the message about a supposed data breach that may have exposed passwords. I know you will have seen it because, until today, there was a big general announcement right at the top of the everything.
Seeing how it's been nearly 18 months since that, with no further alarms getting rung, and how everyone has had 758,214 opportunities to take a minute to think about the security of their passwords, I've taken that notice down.
Follow this link for all the info that has transpired about the whole mess.

The stupid console game thread
So I've not been in the "gamer" demographic for a really long time, mostly played along with my kids on Xbox. Minecraft, Fortnight, and Forza none of which were done wholeheartedly but Forza "because race-car".
Now I find myself in the grips of a hardcore Apex Legends addiction. Like in my 20's I can play that damn thing for hours and not feel the passage of time.It isn't taken too seriously either, but it seems to be fun and an outlet for my work related stress.
Oh yeah, and I suck at it. Like I have not played a FPS game since back when Doom, Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein we new. But I have a damn good time. Even considering firing up Twitch to steam my hilarious failures live. I'm currently shopping for a decent but inexpensive headset.
But really if anyone is playing this on Xbox PM me your GamerTag and I'll add you, so you can witness my wholesome failures firsthand.
Seriously this game has me entertaining the idea of building a gamer PC again now that bitcoin is pretty much dead and video-cards aren't half the build.

Oh man... I remember buying chapter one of the first Wolfenstein game in a copy shop in Scotland. I was maybe 11, I think.Jaeger wrote:

Just one 3.5" disk. I don't recall how much I payed. I didn't exactly have much spending cash at that age, so it can't have been expensive.
It was also "shareware". Remember shareware?

Re: The stupid console game thread
I'm still kicking myself for throwing out the family Commodore 64. It was the 1st gen "breadbox", and we had a fancy floppy-drive, too! The idea that the thing might make a nice casemod one day hadn't even occurred to me.
Oh, the C64. ,8,4, wasn't it?
Winter Games, Summer Games, and I think we had some kind of Mission-Impossible game. Never figured out how that was supposed to work, you were kinda riding elevators up and down to get to a "room" with platforms and shit and you had to jump over robots or something.
And, of course, Zac McKraken, and Maniac Mansion. Didn't yet speak English, so never got far there, either. Not on the 64. I think I eventually managed to get to the end of Maniac Mansion when it came free on a CD-Rom that was packaged with some gaming magazine.

I found my C64 last week!
Needs two keys replaced, and I don't remember if the floppy drive still works or not. But doesn't look too molested. Will have to give it a try in the next few weeks.
