Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
Complaining about Marquez fiddling with him and not racing enough to dash his championship hopes? WTF, did he hang out with Stoner during Phillip Island? I get there is a lot at stake, but still, Marquez passed Lorenzo last race too. It's not Marquez's fault Ionne slapped Rossi around for the last 5 laps.

I also feel deflated. My interest in MotoGP has waned over the last few years, but this season got me very excited again. I haven't watched every race, but I have been more excited and more emotionally invested that I have been in years. I stayed up late to watch Sepang, and had to stand up for the first several laps because it was so exciting.
And then I just felt heart-broken. My hero showed his true colors and I could barely stand to watch the rest of the race. I only stayed up so I could hear what he had to say.
I agree with Stoner that he should have been black flagged at that point. 3 points and back of grid at the next race is a tiny slap on the wrist for one of the most embarrassing things I've seen in the premier class

Re: Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
I watched the incident few times now, can't help but think that MM may have taken a fall soccer style, from the helicopter shot it's pretty clear that MM lunges in to VR right before he goes down. He may have still had some respect for VR after Argentina crash, but I think Assen may have been where he decided to play the same game after VR's run through the gravel.

Re: Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
As you can see from the date of my post, my disappointment was acquired prior to today's race. Pedrosa's point is well taken: [substantial paraphrase] "Will the real Valentino Rossi please stand up" ie, is it "that's racing" or has he enrolled in the Casey Stoner School of "fair play." You can't have it both ways. The pass at Laguna wasn't the dirty play, it was the brake check in the very next corner that I found to be both dirty and unfair. Still, he had the line and Casey should have anticipated it. Fair? No - Racing tactic? YES. Now, Rossi appears to have a new set of values. Instead of passing that guy and earning a championship, he is relegated to conspiracy theory, name calling and . . . . the events that unfolded today. That leg moved, voluntarily and in the direction of another bike.
Today evidenced poor sportsmanship at it's lowest.
To Matpoc point, I have a hard time thinking any racer will drop the bike soccer player style. Perhaps, but I just don't see it at this level. Sad day for the sport overall.

Re: Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
Having watched the race I was extremely disappointed to see that Marquez's sole purpose on the track was to screw with Rossi. Initially I thought the plan was to do a kamakazi inside and lose the front end and take Rossi out. Rossi got tired of his antics and defended himself. Marquez coming from a soccer mad country took a dive. I have to say that had I been Rossi the little Spanish prick would have been punted into the stands long before the incident. Marquez should have been penalized for his dangerous riding. But as Honda owns DORNA nothing happened. It will be interesting to see if he hangs around and waits for Rossi in order to protect Lorenzo.

On some angles, it looks like Marquez did hit VR leg before he pushed him back, maybe hitting the brake lever *accidentally*.MATPOC wrote:I watched the incident few times now, can't help but think that MM may have taken a fall soccer style, from the helicopter shot it's pretty clear that MM lunges in to VR right before he goes down. this ^ is what I was talking about, MM lunges froward, toward VR, moments before falling. Most likely he was frustrated, lost his cool and rammed him, I want to see telemetry, pretty sure MM accelerated before the contact.
Bottom line: two worlds greatest riders having a pissing match (which IMHO really hurts public image of the sport) and J-Lo walks away with a title... I may just cancel my subscription after this, after watching the best race of the decade this has been such a letdown, war of the words on Thursday, actions on track and subsequent penalties.
I didn't agree with MM getting penalized when he clipped Pedro's wheel sensor in Aragon, SuperSIC getting blasted after Pedro crash in LeMans was just wrong, and now this?

All in all neither party is completely in the "right", but as a fan I am more pissed that an out-of-contention racer ruined the finale of an amazing season just so he could satisfy his immature joy-button by fucking with someone who had something to contribute to the season and the history of the sport overall. I had high hopes for MM having a bright future, but now I am hoping he experiences a career of Ben Spies level mediocrity for creating this kerfuffle.

Re: Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
So now that the drama been raging on for several days I have some thoughts that I wanted to share, mainly on MM's intentions. I know millions of Marquez fans will deny any ill intentions on his part, even after watching a million replays, race strategy comparisons and any other evidence (I have certainly seen this on the BookFace) but I still wonder if it was an intentional fall, which is impossible to prove as we can't ever know what was going through his head.
MM is a better bike handler than any of us, so seeing him fall off at low speed while traveling almost in a straight line seems just implausible, especially after watching that save he had in Q2, turn 14? picked is up on a knee like it was nothing, and now he suddenly falls off, but only after making eye contact with VR. Vale have him a "look" and he just rammed him, then dropped the bike, had he not gone down it would be seen as racing incident or even possibly as his aggression (he clearly accelerated in to VR and hit him) by falling off the bike he assumes a vicitmhood and cries foul, VR gets a shaft and he wins the pissing match.
He is clearly a thinker, that is what separates him from the rest with just raw talent, he must have thought that move through, I can't imagine it any other way.

Re: Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
I'll admit to thinking much the same except with the twist that when he falls he takes Rossi with him. I also feel that Marquez should thank his lucky stars it wasn't someone like Roberts instead of Rossi. Roberts would have booted that little shit into the stands way before the incident. I do have one question. Will Marquez insist on starting on the last row so he can help his bumbuddy?

Read the above and for me the read was a load of shit. If Marquez is paid to race why didn't he ? All he did was screw with / attempt to slow or cause Rossi to crash. Racing was the last thing on his mind.

Re: Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
I've watched the race a few times now and they both f'ed up. MM for his taunting with Rossi and Rossi for pulling the same shit with MM as he did with Stoner at Laguna. Ie, running wide with a brake check to take the line and force a run off or panic stop to ruin the racers rythym. Stoner panic stopped, mm chose to take the line back.
Even if he blew turn 4, it's obvious MM slows his pace after every pass. That's pure crap when you're not contending for the championship. Agreed.
As for the title of thread, it was more about Rossi whining. He used to always say that's racing and everyone else was just a crybaby. Now, instead of making his point on the track, he's whimpering to the press. AND Lorenzo going to race direction is pathetic. Lots of poor sportsmanship to go around.

The results were guaranteed as soon as they put Rossi on the back of the grid. What does bother me is the fact that Marquez wasn't racing. And it appears Honda condoned it. I remember Honda used to refer to Yamaha as "piano makers". But now it seems that they are quite happy to NOT race them and let Yamaha win a race and the world championship. I always thought Honda owned DORNA. Not the other way round. The season is now over but the bad taste will linger for a long time. I'll probably watch next year but I won't be too concerned about the results. Maybe the fun will be seeing if you can guess who DORNA has given the nod to to be the 2016 champion.

Re: Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
I wouldn't say Lorenzo was pre-ordained to the title at the beginning of this season, fact is while he was a bit of a douche about the whole thing he rode well all season. Did Markie Marc completely rim him all race long? It was so obvious that everytime my wife walked in the room she would say "geez he's still in 2nd? Is he even trying?" So yeah, the season that could have gone down in history ended up a failure, if nothing else Rossi has dispelled the demons he acquired riding the Ducati and I will watch (torrents) next season to see if he can exact his revenge. Something tells me he is already talking to Yamaha about overcoming the horsepower deficit to the RCVs.obiwancanopy wrote:30 laps and not a single effort to pass Lorenzo by Marquez. It's time for Humankind to ditch the imaginary friends of our species' childhood and grow the fuck up.

Re: Anyone else disappointed in Rossi?
Next season preview:
MM and J-Lo make it official, super-best friends tie the knot (J-Lo will have to join Honda squad after Yamaha kicks him out)
Rossi tries hard and gets cock-blocked by the lovebirds, meanwhile lovers quarrel erupts when they try to decide who is on top. More drama = more ticket sales
Pedro quietly takes the title... oh wait, they double team him in the last race and while one takes Pedro out the other snatches the crown... unless Rossi grabs the crown while the Spaniards are fighting?
Script is written, I will wait to catch up till Mark Neale makes another documentary...
