If you can login no problem, but you wish to avoid problem, try checking the "Remember Me" box where you login. I've meddled with the settings there, so even if you return here only once every couple of weeks, it should remember you fine. Provided you have cookies enabled.

If it won't remember you, and you want to be sure any failure to remember is actually such and not just an oops, please read the following (click the bar to make it "show").
Important infos about cookies
To be remembered, you must have cookies enabled in your browser. Some people prefer using "private" browsing mode - which precludes cookies being placed on your device in the first place.
Some people use regular browsing mode, but may have chosen to disable all cookies in their settings. Sometimes, these people will end up tearing their hair out because a lot of websites just don't work at all, like many online stores, as many e-commerce platforms don't do bugger all without using cookies.
Me, I've got "Self-Destructing Cookies" plugins in my various browsers. Which lets me accept all cookies everywhere, smug in the knowledge that they will be deleted the instant I close that browser tab. I can even set it to delete the cookies only when I close the whole browser window, which is helpful with online stores.
And I can whitelist sites like the board, so the plugin doesn't mess with those cookies at all.

And you must use the same browser, on the same machine. Unless you're using something like a cookie manager that syncs to all your devices and things, your apple browser on your ipad won't have the delicious cookies chrome has on your PC. And unless google now manages cookies between your devices (who knows what the fuck they do), even chrome on your Android won't have the same cookies as chrome on your notebook, or chrome on your other Android.

Once upon a when, we've had a data breach (maybe).
Click here if you don't know what that's about.
If you've visited the forum at any time after November 18, 2020, you will have seen the message about a supposed data breach that may have exposed passwords. I know you will have seen it because, until today, there was a big general announcement right at the top of the everything.
Seeing how it's been nearly 18 months since that, with no further alarms getting rung, and how everyone has had 758,214 opportunities to take a minute to think about the security of their passwords, I've taken that notice down.
Follow this link for all the info that has transpired about the whole mess.

The Fairy Godfather

Post by Rench » Tue Jun 14, 2022 9:00 pm

I'd like to tell you about my fairy Godfather Al Knox, who died yesterday.

He was a leader (committee I think) in my Boy Scout troop. I was one of the older kids, and his son was one of the younger ones, so we were never particularly close, but had regular interactions. I earned my Eagle Scout, aged out of the troop, and stayed in loose contact with other older scouts and leaders.

Then everything sucked. My mom left the family, I had a shitty breakup, I failed out of university, all the boo hoos. And with no job, no future, but lots of debt, I made a plan. I spent 20 months paying off all my debts, so I could buy a motorcycle. I'd never ridden before, I just needed something to focus on.

And after 20 months of less than ramen, and everything paid off, my credit was still so bad that no one would loan me the money for a bike. I took a 78 Honda for a test ride in my old Scoutmaster's neighborhood, so I stopped in to get his opinion on it as a rider and mechanic. He asked about my dreams of a Sportster, and I could only shrug. He told me I should call Al, he knew some people at the independent bank in town. Out of desperation, I did. And Al sounded like he was smiling and jovial as ever through the phone, and gave me a name to ask for at the bank the next day. I called the bank and asked, and like it was no problem at all, they handed me a check for a brand new Harley. I called Al to thank him, and he claimed he had nothing to do with it, same smile over the phone.

I saw him a few times over the years, we'd talk about bikes and other casual catch up. Years later I had just paid the bike off, and Buell was going under. I called the same bank and asked if I could take another motorcycle loan. I was informed they don't do those. I said that's a shame, I just finished paying off my bike with them. The bank reiterated they don't do, and never have done, motorcycle loans.

We've all got our attachments and anthropomorphic feelings to our bikes. But I cannot accentuate enough how much I was in the shit, and a bike became the focus to pull myself out. And Al Knox made it happen, denying it the whole time.

RIP Al, I never knew you but you helped a friend and so helped me.

I don't get to drop in here often anymore, but Rench, I feel what you are dealing with. All of my older friends are gone or going, and most of my younger friends are struggling through strife unimaginable. I'm sorry this phenomenon is global it seems.
