I should get the message within a few hours, but under rare circumstances, it might take me a day.

If you can login no problem, but you wish to avoid problem, try checking the "Remember Me" box where you login. I've meddled with the settings there, so even if you return here only once every couple of weeks, it should remember you fine. Provided you have cookies enabled.

If it won't remember you, and you want to be sure any failure to remember is actually such and not just an oops, please read the following (click the bar to make it "show").

To be remembered, you must have cookies enabled in your browser. Some people prefer using "private" browsing mode - which precludes cookies being placed on your device in the first place.
Some people use regular browsing mode, but may have chosen to disable all cookies in their settings. Sometimes, these people will end up tearing their hair out because a lot of websites just don't work at all, like many online stores, as many e-commerce platforms don't do bugger all without using cookies.
Me, I've got "Self-Destructing Cookies" plugins in my various browsers. Which lets me accept all cookies everywhere, smug in the knowledge that they will be deleted the instant I close that browser tab. I can even set it to delete the cookies only when I close the whole browser window, which is helpful with online stores.
And I can whitelist sites like the board, so the plugin doesn't mess with those cookies at all.

And you must use the same browser, on the same machine. Unless you're using something like a cookie manager that syncs to all your devices and things, your apple browser on your ipad won't have the delicious cookies chrome has on your PC. And unless google now manages cookies between your devices (who knows what the fuck they do), even chrome on your Android won't have the same cookies as chrome on your notebook, or chrome on your other Android.

SECURITY WHATNOW?
Once upon a when, we've had a data breach (maybe).
Click here if you don't know what that's about.

If you've visited the forum at any time after November 18, 2020, you will have seen the message about a supposed data breach that may have exposed passwords. I know you will have seen it because, until today, there was a big general announcement right at the top of the everything.
Seeing how it's been nearly 18 months since that, with no further alarms getting rung, and how everyone has had 758,214 opportunities to take a minute to think about the security of their passwords, I've taken that notice down.
Follow this link for all the info that has transpired about the whole mess.

Thinking about....

The place to come if you've been with us for years or it's your first time here. General yakking about anything motorcycle related. Think of it as the internet coffeehouse for the UTMC.

Pic not working, but I followed your link and it looks like a Speed Triple? If so, can't say enough good stuff about the brief time I spent on one.

It reminded me why I'm not allowed to have sportbikes any more. :D

Yep, 2009 Speed Triple. That exact one, actually.

There's also a 2011 CB1000R I'm eyeballing, and a 2003 Kawi Z1000.

Tired of crouching over the ol' VFR....

You've been around this joint long enough that you certainly must be getting too old for that hunched-over clip-on rearset shit. I know I sure as shit am.

That's a sexxah looking bike. And, in fact, if memory serves, the one I rode was of roughly that vintage (circa late aughts).

Those triple motors are FUCKIN' FABOO. I mean, like, vulgarly smooth and powerful. Barry White slathered in Astroglide. Priest's made me think The Dirty Thoughts. Considering I'd just come off his Duc 999 -- which was both uncomfortable and twitchy -- I had a serious chub for the Speed Triple.

I've heard nothing but good things about the big new CBs. Likewise, I've spent some quality time on a Kawi Rex and have nothing but good things to say. Still, for my money Id' take the Triumph. That's just me. Were it not for the Indian I'd be back on another Trumpet in a heartbeat (and I still wonder if I shouldn't have gone with a new Triumph Bobber)...

Just not sure how reliable the ST would be. Never owned a Triumph. That's why the CB1K is in the running. Haven't broke a Honda yet... And I've always secretly been a Kawi guy. Loved the shit outta the several GPZs I've had.

I also LOVE speed triples! At least the idea of one... I've never ridden one. As far as reliability, there's a certain era of Triumphs that have a problem with failing sprag clutches. Its a cheap part, but you have to split the cases to replace it :o So, do some googling to find out if this one might have that problem. I wanna say its an earlier generation than '09, so you're probably in the clear...

No and no.

It applies to 1050s up to 2010 (I think).... or, up to a particular engine number I read somewhere

Last I looked, the "kit" was about $600.... but doesn't include the idler gear, which I would absolutely replace.

And thankfully, no case splitting necessary. It's all under the right side cover.

Rode it yesterday and buying it today.

Needs some mods for me to be comfortable.

I hate the stock bars, so need to find a comfy solution. It's missing the rear fender, which I'd like to have, and the regulator should be replaced soon-ish. Thems go bad, I hear. After the starter clutch is sorted, of course. Oh, and the 12,000 mile service which includes valve clearance inspection/adjustment. I'll let them (dealer) do that and I'll do the rest.

It's 93 miles to go pick it up. I'll be taking the train down there (San Diego) and riding back. It's supposed to start raining tomorrow afternoon, so I'm hoping to beat the storm getting home. Might just bring my rain gear...

I just looked it up. The bikes I was thinking of are the 1995-96 900cc triples. There was no cover on the block so the cases did, indeed, need to be split to replace the sprag clutch.

So, didja get it? Where's the pix? Made it home in one piece ahead of the rain, I trust?

Started raining, lightly, about 4 miles from home. Windy as fuck down in SD though. Felt like I was sailing instead of riding. Been looking into a bikini fairing...

Pic is up top (too lazy/dumb to figure out how to post it properly)

Hey, so long as (1) you got it, and (2) you didn't eat shit and die on the way home, it's all good.
