My DOOM in Pictures

Post by Bigshankhank » Mon Oct 08, 2012 5:27 am

[caveat] I am not a shutterbug, so there are really very few images in this post [/caveat]
Arrived at BWI and hitched the light rail out to Lander's Garage to pick up my borrowed bike. After a validating my route, and a little acclimation on the machine itself, I headed out and before I realized it I was here. Met with JustNate & Vespalina & SSCAM who had just pulled into the lot right in front of me. Matt was on the naked version of the bike i was riding, and that was about where the similarities between he and I ended. As the night came on, the lot filled with impending doom.

Over the course of the night, Donna our overworked barmaid soldiered on admirably (despite having exactly ZERO Texas beers, I would have had a Pearl if it was available) keeping the lounge friendly while the parking lot was a hotspot of people & bacon. FWIW to a person from Texas, the crabcakes weren't that bad, either.
In the morning, the full toll of the previous evening became clear
Image
Breakfast followed by a most spirited ride out to the vintage bike rally showed up some pretty cool old American & British iron, with a few oddballs thrown in for good measure. I think everyone was impressed/terrified by the climbing hill except for 12ci who I thought I remembered stated that he had camped on top and wheeled down on a child's tricycle. Or maybe not.

As you can see, I have a thing for small Harley's. Interesting side note, according to the locals the black 1976 XLCR in the last picture was apparently just uncrated prior to this rally, and had 3 miles showing on the clock. Just about as many as Priest's 48 prior to this weekend. Seriously Scott, you need to pack some weight on that thing, the salesman didn't wander you through the accessories section for nothing.
Anyway, with weather threatening and shit food available at the rally, we bailed and headed off. As the day turned into evening and the Lounge opened again, the party cranked back up. I didnt bother getting pictures of the DJ because his mad beats were shaking the lense of my camera, but I can attest to his having all the local ladies feeling a little heated up. Or that could've been hot flashes, either way. The parking lot & lounge remained the places to be as the temp dropped. BTW, why was the guy who should have been the least climatalogically adapted to cold weather the only one who didn't bundle up?
Anyway, I found these pictures on my camera when I woke the next morning.

I gotta say, whoever was controlling the weather, I owe you huge. I didn't hit rain the whole ride until I got back to Ballmer late Sunday morning, and that I think could have been avoided if I hadn't missed my turn off of Hwy30 and got slightly lost. Big thanks to Dozer who hooked me up with a ride to BWI after some kick-ass muffins, and HUGE FUCKING THANKS to Zach for letting me schlep around on his Daytona for the weekend.

Thanks for posting up pics! Seeing all the bikes outside and everyone in at the lounge is like porn but without the shame and frustration of ruining a perfectly good cabbage.

Man, words cannot express how much I wanted to be there, here's hoping for next year!

I am not sure exactly where the track is but depending on traffic I can reach downtown Austin in three hours or so. I would be down for a race weekend. MK3 is in the area, he may be a good regional host, as well.
