Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Brilliant! You just wanna buy this, even if you don't need it ... just to do business with this guy!

yeah, I agree. Anybody who adds "unicorn" as part of their CL search terms list has gotta be worthy of grabbing a beer with. Caveat: can't wear the speedo and helmet for beers, but bringing a sponge is fine.

I think a speedo and full face is technically considered ATTGATT if you're riding a Razz. Plus hydrody... I mean aerodynamics are critical on a 50.

In the words of the subgenius:
Fuck'em if they can't take a joke.

It's actually fun, harmless, and nicely done. The sort of thing people email around and which thus actually brings more visitors to the site. But one or two might see this and get the idea that a site that doesn't remove such frivolities immediately can't be run by competent people. Or they might fear someone suing because they didn't write home about the curves.

People, all of them, are fucking weak sauce.

If I cared about craigslist, I'd suggest a campaign to come up with the funniest, most entertaining, funny-picture laden craigslist ad, without actually involving any un-truths or the like in it. Just to bomb them with the unleashed joyful, until they submit to the fierce might of the unstoppable delight. But we don't have craigslist over here, or not to any degree that I'd even have heard about it, so I don't care.

Don't know whether I should be flattered or creeped out.

Flattered or creeped out, makes no difference to me. . . so long as it makes all the girls hot when they see us scrubbing each other on that Razz.

BOOM. PREGNANT!

Ok, I just laughed in an inappropriately loud fashion in the middle of a doctor's office.
