Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top

this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

As long as things are complicated, those in authority (regardless of whether they have any real understanding of what is the complicated thing in question) can always find something to nitpick that'll let them rationalize imposing some decision or another on those they have authority (actual or perceived) over.

Re: whatcha doing?
Speaking of, so the Zoo offered me the job I wanted, but for a smidge less $$ than I was hoping for. I knew it would be a step down in salary, just not quite so much. And at the last moment I had a Skype call with another company that has a lot to offer, and in an effort to squeeze a couple more zoo-bucks outta the employment game I am flying there Sunday night to interview in person and see whats up. They will offer me considerably more cash assuming they offer me anything, and get me and the family back to Florida post haste, but at the potential expense of my peace of mind. And to me this is what it is all about; peace of mind. I have been on the verge of a breakdown for the past eight months or so due to work, and really been building up to it for three years. But for a bunch more money and a happier wife, well shit I am torn.
Of course, the Zoo would mean commuting every day on the Duke...

Re: whatcha doing?
Went to the hardware store today. Third time for the current project.
Managed to get out in about 15 minutes.
Assembled all as I had planned, didn't hold.
Spend a few hours tinkering, rummaging through my disordered collection of crappy tools, assorted and unsorted screws and old whatnot, tried stuff out, did it over again, and so on and so forth. All to fix a three foot bit of wood to the wall to make a shelf for my e-cigarette atomizers.
Had I gone to the hardware store a fourth time, it would have been ten minutes of work, with thirty minutes of walking and maybe twenty minutes in there. One hour, instead of a few.
But that would have been no fun!

I made a dimmer box to control the temperature of my crock pot. There's a sweet spot that's hot enough to kill germs but not so hot that it scorches beans. When my cooker was new, back in the 1970s, average voltages were lower, like 110 instead of the 122.5 volts at my house today.

Re: whatcha doing?
I had decided to stick it to the middle man and ordered some e-cigarette stuff straight from China. As of last night, one package had been waiting for customs processing for four days, for the other, the sender had only transmitted orders to DHL but hadn't even posted it yet. In China, mind.
This morning, though, I'm informed that both packages had been loaded onto the delivery vehicle and would arrive today.
Took till bloody 5 PM, so I got nothing done of the things I had planned for today.
But now, I've got a whole row of new atomizers to play around with, which is what I've been doing the rest of the evening. While watching Robin Williams' last movie.
Any e-cigarettists, I can recommend the Derringer, it produces an unreasonable amount of vapor for such a small dripper. The Goblin, on the other hand, while a great performer, much better than other tanks I've tried, has a severe design flaw and I recommend against it!

Re: whatcha doing?
Chop up a sweet onion and some decent sausage, fry in olive oil with a couple cloves of garlic. When everything is browned, stir in milk and flour, reduce heat and keep stirring to make gravy (roux).
Dump it in the pot.
Open a jar of giardiniera (spicy pickled veggies).
Dump it in the pot.
Wash and cut up a couple taters.
Dump it in the pot.
Grab a couple frozen chicken breasts.
Dump it in the pot.
Rinse a double handful of cranberry beans, a cup or two of quinoa and the same amount of black rice.
Dump it in the pot.
Add a couple tablespoons of salted butter and about a dozen peppercorns.
When the pot's about 3/4 full, add water until it's about an inch from the top. Put the lid on, turn it on the Low setting, full power.
Walk away, ostensibly to start throwing ingredients into the bread machine.
Come back and stir the pot with a big knife. The stew should be bubbling and boiling for six to eight hours, and the chicken should be firmly cooked. When you're stirring with the knife, and you find a big chunk of chicken, cut it against the side of the pot.
Reduce the heat to about 160F and go to bed.
Next day, stir the pot with the big knife again. The chicken should be disintegrated.
The stew is ready to eat.
Slice your homemade bread nice and thin, toast it twice and spread some butter on it. Electric carving knife is perfect for this.
Serve with some tasty beer.
Maintain 155 to 165 degrees, feed the pot with more water and ingredients every night before bed.

Re: whatcha doing?
I've just come back from having a few "alcohols" with friends, at a bar.
The bar is the Wageni, named after a super-obscure eastern-european Anarchist and/or Punk Band (we haven't been able to find out).
I've been there a few times, today was the first time I've seen the front door open.
But only cops and people not-in-the-know use that. We walked around the building and used the back door, as you should!
I've met a dog named after a grocery store chain, a barman who will accuse just about anyone of being unfriendly or ill-tempered, just because, and have had very many alcohol. I think a third of the time of typing this was just backspace.
Gnight.
