Growing your own...

...vegetables. My first attempt. Ever. Put stuff in the ground and it grows food at some point. Amazing concept.

Oooh, that brings back memories.
My grandma's family's old house had a conservatory. We only went there on holiday, so couldn't constantly take care of the vegetables (grandma's sister started growing a victory garden during the war and it sorta kept going in some form or another the next 60 years).
The solution plonking a few bags of potting soil on the ground next to the stone wall of the conservatory, slicing open the top, stuffing a few seeds in there and fixing something for the plants to climb up to the wall. Find someone to come by every now and then to water 'em and they took care of everything else themselves. Every summer, there they'd be, fist-sized fresh tomatoes, fresh off the vine, most delicious I ever did taste.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

Nice. This is the first time in ten years we are growing veggies again.
Spuds, leeks, peas, carrots, squash, etc. Next week the rhubarb & red currants start slowly transforming into wine. August will be chokecherries.

Gotta love real food.
Done.

Mmmmmm...nothing like home grown tomatoes.

Man, when I was a kid, we grew corn, potatoes, tomatoes, peas, onions, peppers, zucchini, squash, lettuce, lima beens, green beans...

Then again my dad is an agronomist.

I have a half-acre lot with my house. The choke-cherries & grapes I pick wild at a friend's place.

Now that I ponder, life is kinda pastoral here.

Funny, we decided to do the same thing this summer. Tomatoes, corn and watermelon, aside from our fruit trees: avocado, pomegranate, brown fig, saturn peach, lemon and persimmon.

We also had a mystery plant growing by one of our avocado trees. We generally just toss our fruit & veggie scraps in the yard, sorta a compost thing, also to see what surprizes we get. We could never figure out what it was till my wife got it--pumpkin! It's the size of a soccer ball already.
