i lead a very busy/isolated/solitary life and the majority of my socialization is virtual. i've been in lurker mode on this board for a while and have been doing most of my socializing on the FB. i realized something. my favorite people on FB are people from here. i just don't get along with normal people. i've really missed you guys.

for a few really rough years this place was a dreamy escape from a moderately miserable life.

a couple divorces later, i didn't need that escape anymore. now i'm all free and mobile and i want to meet you fuckers.

@jaeger: see you at Doom13

@joe: i'll be in pdx during this bike show:

http://theonemotorcycleshow.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

if the roads aren't too icy between you and there, i'll feed you some beers :)

the primary purpose of the trip is to take an airplane ride to help legendary dave relocate and make the drive home from nashville to seattle in less than 48 hours. i'm taking 10 days off work and spending 3-4 days in seattle. once i get to portland via amtrak, i have Absolutely Nothing planned (i'll bring my copy of "fugitives and refugees" by chuck palahniuk as a tour guide)

Midland? Man, back in college I lusted after a girl from Odessa. Then she slept with her cousin, and I swore off West Texas girls for a while. However I am from Kentucky, so it was only a temporary ban.
As for me, I am just NW of Houston. You might say I live in the taint between Houston and Austin, and leave it to the reader's discretion which is cock and which is balls.

Maybe I am clueless, but its the same old place to me.

I think the board needs some new young blood to stir things up. What is the average Ootmik age? I'm guessing somewhere around 40? What was it 8 years ago? Around 32? We're turning into a group of grumpy old motorcyclists who are aging with the board. Where's the passion? Where's the cause? Where's the fight?

We need recruitment brochures! :P

And Facebook isn't doing us any favors.

I think Zim does have a point... when I found this place, it wasn't just the old board, but the old-old-board, when was that, 2002? More than a decade ago man. I'm 32 now, would have been 21 when I found this place in 2002.
It has been quieter here than before. 2012 in particular, sometimes, you could hear the tumbleweeds, and not even in the summer - in the winter! It has picked up in recent weeks, thank goodness.
If I may make a suggestion: Wickedpunch has explained that he didn't like other motorcycle boards, but felt that this was different. Chances are, there are other folks with similar feelings on other motorcycle boards. Perhaps ootmicks that also frequent other boards could just look out for civilized folk that somehow don't seem to fit in there?

This is a great idea. "Hey, denizens of $thisboard*, $thisboard is full of fucking idiots and fucking sucks! come to the UTMC instead! But not you fucking idiots, you're not fucking welcome!"

* dollarsign is a variable denominator, if you're not familiar with the practice

Yes, true, that is one way to go about it. As a molotov cocktail is a way of informing someone they have unlawfully parked their car in front of a fire-hydrant.
I was thinking private messages, addressed to people known to other ootmicks as potentially good fits for this place, along the lines of "Hey man, come check this place out, I think you may like it and it may like you." or, if there is a specific event of uncoolness common elsewhere but not here "Hey man, you're cool, it sucks what happened there. Check out this place, folks there are way to cool for that sort of shit."

I think the heart of the problem
and I've said this before
is that
well
many of us oldfucks
found a site full of awesomeness
wild articles and sane screeds
and said, "these are my people"
The heart of the problem
is that we stopped being awesome
and became just another insular bike forum
Now
lets talk about oil
and café racers

True. Who even remember or know that there were some amazing articles back then ? Do I remember correctly that to avoid heavy updates, the idea was that the new articles were to be published on the forum instead, by the readers. Then you people started to meet in real life, what a strange idea.
I don't know how long I've been checking this place, probably since last century because I remember that on 9/11 I was curious to see how a this place would react to the new terrorist trend.
And also and I'm old and grumpy and hello again Bullfrog.

I've tried this but nobody was really impressed with what they saw.

I was wondering what you were up to, Bully. WTF posessed you to leave the land of Zia and move to Texas? Either way, this abnormal person is glad you're back.

Oh, and fuck all you hipster fuckers for having a problem with old people, because that's whhat you're saying in your hipsterfacefuck lingo. Smartass llittle fucks. Ever been fucked up by a soon to be pentagenarian? Keep it up, fucks. I'll fuck you fucks up--soon to be pentagenarian style.

Fucks.

We were actually talking about ourselves; I never really thought you were any older than me, but if you want to brag about your advancing years… :)
There are no smartass little fucks, that's the problem symptom. Only oldassed fucks and oldassed fucks here. But that's not the issue, what is, is we're the most boring-ass terrorist cult this side of the asphalt. It's like the 6 feet underground toothless mobilityscooter crypt in here. Except when we're having forum drama, that shit's fucking evergreen.

I wanted to add something but forgot while I was reading... eeh, even forgot what it's called but comes with old age or too much pot...

Back to my daily routine, either working or entertaining my 4 year old. Tonight it's Nerf wars till mom gets home and freaks out once again... this whole thing about guns and shooting...

I think we've had one successful recruit, and he's more interested in IRL than the board. Not that it's an entirely bad thing.

My contemporaries claim to be too busy with work/kids/TV/FB/Pintrest to ride, much less join another forum. Then there's the generation gap to the 20-somethings (for me, anyway).

The only advantages I can see to being an oldass fuck is the bike insurance has gone down and I can subtly infect my children/nieces/nephews with the motorcycling bug. Now, they won't want *anything* to do with the old man's friends and riding buddies, but maybe someday... :/

I feel funny about recruiting, always thought this was a secret clubhouse, like a Fight Club, and handing out cards defeats the purpose...

Have hope, EIF. Last weekend, my 8 year-old was with me alll day at Techday (a group of airhead geeks wrenching/drinking/BSing) and when we were driving home, he said he wants a red and black airhead and ride with the airheads and go to techday. Granted, the most fun he had was eating junk food, getting loaded on root beer and smashing beer cans with his head--helmet attached, of course. But hey, he's in--one of us.
