Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.

Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

I'm afraid it's even worse than that. That was a security camera facing the stern of a large motor yacht, which is tied up to the dock. That guy didn't fall down stairs, he was swept off the dock into who knows how much water.
Bike, drowned. Hopefully he fared better.

I kind of laughed, actually. Yeah, I know.

I hope that guy survived. I know that if you chucked me off of a dock in my gear and then dropped a car on me I'd be a goner.

Yeah, I hope he's fine. Cause, if nothing else, he's got something to live for - imagine a group of riders standing around, shooting the shit. Everyone tells a horror story how they got into a shitty situation on their bike, everyone trying to top the others with descriptions of pure mortal danger. Then this guy speaks.
Heck, after a while, when a newb joins the group and tells of his exploits, all he'd have to do would be to breathe loudly, and everyone else would just shake their heads at the newb and be like "Yeah, but that's nothing compared to what happened to Tony here..."
Short of a pilotless 747 crashing on top of you, or a roaring fire in a skyscraper, sudden freak wave coming after you has to top most everything else for bragging rights for life.
Unless he goes to Japan or Indonesia, where that has become a tragically common experience in recent years.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

Apparently it happened here:

I went to the marina's website (http://www.portosolesanremo.it/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) but can't find where berth 36 is. It's out there on the seawall somewhere. I just thought it'd be cool to see the exact spot.

You can walk the seawall in google street view. Still can't tell what the berth numbers are tho.
