Rench's tip for surviving the deep freeze...

I used to do this semi-frequently in my old house with a bay window on the second story, but the winters have been unusually mild since we moved 3 years ago.

Step 1: Find room with most South-facing windows.

Step 2: open all shades

Step 3: put an actual beach towel on the carpet or tile where all the sun is hitting the ground.

Step 4: Put on swim trunks and sunglasses (do it!! Important to fool the body!!)

Step 5: queue up summer playlist (shamelessly for me involved Joe Satriani, the Fresh Prince, Huey Lewis and Tears for Fears)

Step 6: synthesize as much vitamin D as possible in your little illusion.

I just woke up from an hour nap on a technically cold floor, and I almost feel like I was somewhere that didn't suck the heat and moisture from your body like you're unsuited in the depths of space.

I've been feeling bitchy about the cold here in NoVA today -- with our high of a whopping 15°F (-9°C) -- and then I looked at the forecast for Chicago, which will enjoy a high temp of 5°F (-15°C).

Mrs. Jaeger took Jägerkind 1 to the ice rink this morning and it was warmer inside the rink.

Screw this noise. I'm ready for spring now.

I've acclimated to the cold. Walked out to the car the other night in -10F temps wearing a sweater, underwear and a pair of slippers to get my phone. The car is 200' from the house. I've also given up wearing a hat.

We had freezing rain today. Who knew rain could turn to ice WHILE IT WAS FALLING!
Thanks Obama.

I'm hunkered down, awaiting Spring. I mostly burrow under the blankets and try to hibernate.

I keep it above freezing in the shop, but it'd be cost prohibitive to keep it warm enough to be comfortable enough to work on much. I put tools on top of the heater for a few minutes, but if I leave them there too long, they're 200 degrees. Grab a hot wrench with numb fingers and you don't realize you're being burned until it's too late.

Frozen feet are my other problem. Even with good socks and insulated boots, my toes go numb pretty quickly, since the floor is barely above freezing. I have a scrap piece of the neoprene foam that I cut my seat pad out of, I've found that, if I keep my feet on that, they stay warmer...

It's 14 degrees here, falling fast...

Tomorrow's forecast: High of 79, low of 51.

Might dip into the upper 60s during the day later this week. Mid 40s at night.... Brrrrr!

I wanna move where ever motorpsycho is. Everytime we warm up out of the teens it snows a bunch more. The pattern is getting pretty old.

I used to do the opposite mid summer (in Vegas) when i was youthfully obsessed with snowboarding. I'd turn the ac all the way down, put on all the gear & watch boarding videos through my goggles.
