If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.
If you have problems logging in, posting, or doing anything else, please get in touch.
You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.
Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.
To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.
Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

First fix:
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

I was under the impression that when you run afoul of one of these things they send you a copy of the photo. True, false, what?

All of the traffic cameras around me, either red light or speed/radar cameras (of which there are very few) primarily only take pictures from the rear. Therefore how can they determine the identity of the driver?
Then again, how long before a "concerned" legislator introduces a bill to make the owner of a vehicle liable for all traffic violations as an end around to close the loopholes these robot cameras open up.

Re: Anyone in VA? Is this bullshit?
It's what they did around here. That's how, in December 2011, I got a speeding ticket in the mail. When I had been in a wheelchair in hospital for two months. Wouldn't have gotten points on my license even if the speed violation had been as severe as to make that happen, since the photo proved it hadn't been me behind the wheel, but I still had to pay.Bigshankhank wrote:All of the traffic cameras around me, either red light or speed/radar cameras (of which there are very few) primarily only take pictures from the rear. They have also started taking pics from behind once they changed the law for who's gotta pay.
Used to by, many motorcyclists enjoyed blasting past speed cameras repeatedly, showing some appendage to the camera.
Demanding that it be proven the camera was set up correctly was, many years ago, a good way to get out of tickets. Mobile speed traps had to be carefully aligned each time, which might require blocking off the road, which the private contractors couldn't and the cops often wouldn't, nevermind the hassle of documenting that alignment. Doesn't work anymore, or so I hear, the current generation of cameras is supposed to self-align and has all manner of doo-dads to ensure accuracy. They can even accurately measure speed when the target vehicle is pretty much tailgating another one in front, only getting a snap of the plate obviously may get tricky then.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

Last I checked, yes, DC mails you a copy of the photo. I've never received one directly; only got popped on Gostaz's bike a few years ago.
Interesting to know that it's possible to push back -- I'd be curious to see if it's consistently successful. From what I understand, most folks just pay up since (I think) there are no points associated with those tickets.

In CO a ticket is not legally served unless it is served by an officer of the court. It's been all over the news a few times a year that photo radar tickets can be ignored unless they are properly served. I've ignored several...........

Me too! The trick is to ignore the police officer, just as you would a ticket that showed up in the mail.Jaeger wrote:got popped on Gostaz's bike a few years ago.

Re: Anyone in VA? Is this bullshit?
Here in RI they only have red light cameras and since they can not prove who is driving because the picture is taken from the rear their solution is to issue an equivalent of parking ticket but for $85 (our parking tix are usually $20-$25) it does not go on your record as a moving violation, just stings a check book a little.
