Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

How many folks are in the MI, WI, IL, OH, and MN area? How many would be interested in a ride of questionable sanity?

I was thinking of doing an IBA Lake Michigan ride as a group. I might be the only one insane enough to do this.

I'm surprised the internet hasn't frozen over in your neck of the woods.

I know it's too damn cold out when I won't even sit on the bike and day dream while on an errand to the garage.

A quick search says 900 miles, 14.5 hrs non stop. When were you thinking of pulling this off?

Just thinking out loud, the biggest snags are Chicago and to a lesser extent, Milwaukee. I'm imagining a clockwise trip starting just north of Chicago at dawn-ish on a Sunday, be through Milwaukee before they're really up and moving, knock out the rest nice and steady and roll into Chicago again on a relatively empty Sunday night.

Of course, my Sportie needs gas pretty regularly...

Sledit: the Google says 17 hr 11 min, 898 miles, that's hugging the lake as much as possible, but skipping Door County and Leelanau Peninsula. Seems much more reasonable with fuel stops and such.

I think the IBA requirement is 1k miles, so I was going to Hit Leelenau and plan for some of the but up up by Green Bay.
Starting in Chicago might not be a bad idea, It makes for less angry riding, I'm sure.

Yup, 1k: http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdo ... m?DocID=25" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ah. Didn't realize you were going for dues-paying-member, I thought it was just a rough mileage goal. Maybe I'll rest the sportie and apply liberal amounts of hemorrhoid cream while you hit the peninsulas.

If you want to take the start north of Chicago route seriously, I can put you up in the guest house (read: dysfunctional camper) some night this summer and we can head over ass-crack-o-dawn. Like pre dawn. Like 4 am I'm thinking.

my 1K app was denied "excessive speed" as after doing the math it was determined my average speed was above the National Posted Limits. I appealed with photos showing the posted 75mph & 80mph sections of Arizona and Utah, taken from the route I took, the appeal was denied also so I said Fuck It.
