Straight Outta Compton

For those of you who, like me, were high-schoolers in the later 80's - early 90's you will definitely remember listening to Boyz in The Hood. I streamed this movie over the weekend and I must say that I was impressed. My wife and son, neither of whom paid much attention to gangsta rap (well my son was obviously too young for it anyway) enjoyed it thoroughly, as well. It definitely pressed my nostalgia buttons, but at the same time it told a compelling story, was really well written and the acting was fantastic, and overall it gave me a much deeper understanding and appreciation for how these teenagers impacted music and culture at the time. I know the controversy surrounding the alleged sexual assault and how it was downplayed in the film, as well as the Oscar snub issue, but all that aside I really liked this movie and highly recommend it.
