First fix:

  • hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there

Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

If you have problems logging in, posting, or doing anything else, please get in touch.
You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

Dual Citizenship can be out of this world!

This is for those like me who got up way too early in their jammys in the '60s to watch the Mercury and later the Apollo
launches. As many as we could. Watched all of the Star Treck shows. OCD on space stuff.

Check this out.

The three horizontal lines in the top left will take you to other parts of the site, including

application for citizenship.

That sounds like it's straight the fuck out of The Expanse. I gotta read the whole page, but... yeah, we gotta diversify our holdings, get some of the humans somewhere other than Terra.

Hm. Interesting.
"But you can't have your mind loaded up into some computer! You would no longer be human, that is disgusting, ..." etc., etc.
My body, or what's left of it, is fucked up. As is my mind, and the hardware the latter is running on. An upgrade is most definitely in order.
When, over the past few years, I read about some Noosphere or another, I was like "... yeah, why not...". If there's Google-Earth 3D and some plug of SBK (the computer-game series) in there ... hells yeah.
If I can be a digital entity and simulate whatever body I'd like, so could everybody else in there. And things made from lace. Or latex (or both?!). There will be the inevitable horde of Eccentrica Gallumbits pretenders. But also infinite interesting varieties.
When all we are is mind, and our bodies are simulacra we build from thought, everybody could be anything they want to be. Most, if not all, of the petty little categories we shove each other into wouldn't be a hindrance anymore. They would be irrelevant. When you see someone and you must consider they look like that because they want to look like that ... those who'd be "unfashionable" would immediately becoming the interesting crowd. Once that has sunk in, so must the logical conclusion. That even those who are desperate to be fashionable are more than what is on the surface. I'm not thinking about some hippie paradise pink-unicorn bullshit. No, the pink unicorns will be fierce warhorses there, and people won't all love each other. Yeez, it would be horrible if they did. But they would be forced to base their opinions on one another on higher grounds than superficialities like tastes or preference. They would not find abandoning judging others based on the latter not so difficult, they already had to get rid of judging people from their appearance, haven't they.

No, I wouldn't be worried about being stuck in such a construct with a bunch of nutjobs. When the barrier between all knowledge and the brain disappears, with practically infinite processing powers for each of our minds, I should expect some hash-fields and validation methods in each object (yes, I expect the noosphere will be object-oriented, possibly self-compiling, yet "fix it with a hammer" simple at it's core. All in XML, or something. NOT MySQL, NO, that is a deal-breaker!). Not even imposed on anyone, least of all the nutters. They'd insist on such to avoid anyone meddling with their mind! Anyone who maintains false-memories and bogus conclusions to any ideas, those who wouldn't give up the truthery, and instead strap on their lacelatex outfits, will be too busy trying to build new idiocies from an infinite fount of knowledge at their disposal and wouldn't bother anyone.
Would, inevitably, find the the errors in their fairy tales and become the wisest, yet humblest, entities within that noosphere.

The only thing that worries me is whether or not I'd get to remain an individual. That is the core property of humanity that, imho, cannot be removed without removing humanity itself. But I'm ready to wait and see. Maybe there'll be a plug-in. I've signed the fuck up.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

Can we please start with conservatives and religious wackos?

Be nice to have a planet with people who give a crap about people outside their tiny bubble and aren't so damn gullible.
