In this time of time, EDUCATE thyself!

A forum for the off topic stuff. Everything from religion to philosophy to sex to humor (see why it used to be called Buggery?). All manner of rude psychological abuse is welcome and encouraged.

In this time of time, EDUCATE thyself!

A friend brought this to my attention:

https://www.edx.org/

Their gimmick being:
Access 2500+ Online Courses from 140 Institutions. Start Today!
Those institutions include outfits like Harvard, Princeton, and Berkeley.
Many (all that I have yet looked at) are free to watch/listen, you only get charged for a "verified certificate".
So if you just wanna educate yourself, rather than acquiring marketable skills specifically to market them, this is withing pissing distance of hte mother lode. Many courses involve quizzes, to check you paid attention during the lecture. The course on vaulted structures I've got running right now, it comes with bloody calculus exercises.

I used to love, passionately, iTuners U. Which was where educational materials had been collected on iTunes. But they cancelled that a few years ago, and finding a a lecture on an arcane subject, presented by qualified academician, involved digging through hundreds of podcasts, and whatever I found would not be curated, obviously.
So this makes me very happy, and I hope you happy by it, too!

If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

I remember when MIT released their free online learning courses, back in maybe 2003-2004? I ran through a few of them myself since I had just moved to Florida and had nothing better to do with my time. They were tough. Still, this is something I wish more people would do with all of this free time, rather than post up constantly about how many bells they need in order to buy some flowers in Animal Crossing.
It's time for Humankind to ditch the imaginary friends of our species' childhood and grow the fuck up.
