Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

I thought was was going to point out what an absurdly bad learner's bike that is... and the awkwardness of being incognito while knowing more about bikes than the obvious biker in the room....

That is a fruity moniker, but H-D's alphabet soup model designations ensure that nobody announces that they ride an FLSTF.

Hope he likes dat der Delphi Fuel Injection.. recovering HD owner here... the bike was not that bad, but the crap that people wear when they ride one? No thanks.

I love how many non licensed people are on HD... I still do not understand how you can register a bike without a valid permit, but whatever, I guess I ain't a "lifestyle rebel".

HD? Keep the Tshirt, bag the bike!

Judging from our roads this weekend, there's a pile of guys like this on their Mid-life Krisis Glide Flange-head sickles (both Jap & Milwaukee) that wanna ride side-by-side & call each other "Bro" at the next Tim Horton's. Living in cottage country we get inundated anually at this time. Which is about when I start running the gravel. I've never seen so many kroozers as this Sunday.

Ya gotta think that in a few years there'll be some cheap second-hand putts around in subdivision garages. WILD HOGS!!! :x

Y2k, let me clarify.... I love to ride, and I am glad other people do too. Am I a bit snarky on Harley? Yup, I spent a LOT of money and time trying to get a brand new bike to run correctly. I don't like fuel injection, I had a bad experience with it.

It really freaks me out that people can buy, register, and insure bikes without at least taking a test, or having a license. I think it is irresponsible on the part of dealers, and local/state govt's to allow this to happen, because a person without demonstrated basic experience is putting themself seriously in harm's way where I live if they do not know how to ride.

Having ridden a Fat Boy carbie that belongs to a friend? It is a NICE bike, if you are into Vtwins.. with a sort of doofy name... I am bitter that my brand new bike sucked. Am I bitter that you ride a Harley? Nope! Glad you have one and I hope you enjoy it. Do I poke a little fun sometimes? Yup! But I poke fun at everything, even myself. I do think it is funny when you see a guy "garb up" for a ride. I ride with gloves, a helmet, and a jacket unless it is too hot. I think doo-rags and beanies are funny. That does not mean anyone cannot wear them, they are just comical to me.

Anyway, not trying to offend, and not mad at anyone cuz they have a particular brand of bike. I am pissed at the Motor Company, because they took my money, and refused to stand behind their product. Ride your rig and enjoy it. I finally gave up on mine, and bought something that fit me better, because it is a more reliable bike. Hope this shows me to be a little snarky about MY experience, but not trying to hate on anyone... Make sense?

I shoulda said how many unlicensed riders on ANY brand.. that does really freak me out, piss me off, scare me, and make me wonder what the point is... I have held a valid M class for 22 years. They aren't that big of a deal to get. But I think you should not be able to register a bike without a license. In MD, you cannot register without proof of insurance, so how can you register a bike, insure it, and ride it without a license?

I was in a similar situation. I was at a bar, and my friend was talking to this guy, she apparently knew. She told him I rode, which lead me to beleive he did as well. So i asked him what he had (remember i was at a bar, and already had a few drinks in me..). He replied, "I've gotta R1 with 5 grand in the motor" .. i replied, without really thinking first "That's really usable power around here, eh?". The way he looked at me, i could tell he had no idea what i was talking about. My friend was telling him (now my friend is about 5'1" and she has never ridden a bike before, ever) that she wants to get a bike, so he tells her to get an r6 or a gsx-r600.. I couldn't beleive what i was hearing. I asked him how long he has been riding, and he said about 2 years (long enough to know better).. This was hopeless, so i ordered a round of shots to ease the pain. After that, he asked me if i would sell him a bag of weed. Now first of all, I don't sell weed. Second, Who the hell says that? So I said "I know you're a cop.", and he got up and walked away.

The truth of motorcyclist opinion has always been that the best bike around is the one he's got the keys for.

Of course anyone with an ounce of social development knows better than to go around like Pee-Wee Herman proclaiming that they have the bestest bike in the whole world.

There are (a few) people around who consider my bike to be some pinnacle of two-wheeled engineering, but even I know enough to answer in an aw-shucks fashion that I ride 'an old Nighthawk.'

I'm always tempted to respond in deadpan to proud (insert brand here) owner's announcements, "Oh, I'm so sorry."

This is some good reading

Just my two cents:

So every now and then I'll be telling someone about how my bike is a special edition, 1000 made; and it's called the Stiletto. Often a fashion conscious bystander will remark about the bike not looking like a shoe

I wonder if the Fatboy suffers a similar fate. Although HD has publicly denied it, I've always wondered if Fat Boy was taken from Fat Man and Little Boy. Not in the best, but quite American.
They swore it was the correct one, but swearing doesn't make a sprocket fit where it doesn't want to. --WeAintFoundShit

Twinkie is a term of endearment... based on the fact that the motor is a twin cam set up..

Dickweeds can ruin anything, but I don't care. As long as I have a bike, I know that I ride because for lack of a better term, it is my fun therapy. It is the one place in my life where I have some control. The noise, the motion, the sights all do good things to my grey matter.

Let the newbies do whatever they need to do. I was a newbie back in the '80's. I probably did some stupid stuff.

Y2k...
Nice views dude! I am jealous of your spot! Grew up out in the stix when I was a kid, could not wait to leave, now I cannot wait to get back....

Enjoy your spot and your rig! I just threw the fact about the twinkie reference out there for non HD folks so that they would know what the term meant.

Feel ya as well on the RUB comment. Leave me alone and let me ride. Stick labels on the stuff that sits still!

Cheers,
