Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

For real, a coworker shot me a link about an R1 getting rear-ended, and it was no more work from there. About 2 years ago. Met Jaeger and Mook a few weeks later. Downhill ever since!
To be precise, that was an R6 and that may be the most viewed thread in UTMC history(count got reset, but I think it hit 40K). I think the pictures from that were so horrifying, that once it got around, it just kept spreading. That one kind of freaked me out, because in spite of being on the WORLD WIDE WEB, this board feels pretty cozy and small to me.

He's still around and commenting on the board. He did get the bike, had it, loved it (probably in a biblical fashion as well), had to get rid of it during his divorce (which is ALMOST as fucked-up as mine).

He recently broke his arm in a low-speed accident (fucking wind-sheers!) but will rebuild the R1100RS he had and be back on two as soon as possible. Or else...
Cheers,
Ames.

I stand corrected... But that really resonated with me, as it is my ultimate fear, and I live in the land of "very important people that cannot be bothered to pay attention while they drive"... I still have some other boards that I check in on, but this is the one place where I actually like the people. I never agree with everyone, but I learn, laugh, and always find good shit here.

Sans Aprilia thanks to my ex-wife (as Ames noted - it was brutal. I still twitch unnaturally thinking about losing that bike)...
But I'm still here.

I'm here because of Ames.

What was It? 2001? Post-Passover-Pork-Pull of /6's? That's the first exposure to the UTMC officially?

Of course I knew Ames, Jeremy, etc several years before that...

Either Hayduke or Bullfrog posted an awesome ride report on ADVrider, and I saw a link in the signature.

Come to think of it it was probably Bullfrog, he had done the front wheel conversion on his KLR.

Now that you do, i bet you wouldn't do that again. Heh, i think we spent the next day trying to trace the charging problem on the duc.... good times!

I seem to remember hearing about the divorce too, which totally sucks. As does the more recent crash. Here's to better luck in your immediate future!
