Re: don't forget to wave
Somewhere in a different dimension on a forum dedicated to family cars and vans, someone does not understand why there are so many pictures of stupid bikes and guys on bikes who don't even know how to take a turn.
I'm not really from around here.

Re: don't forget to wave
The Gap is something like 311 curves in 11 miles, there are at least 3 photography outfits that occupy several corners each, more than one photographer from each company: 129photos, Killboy, and something else, they sit/stand under a canopy with their url plastered all over so you know where to go to find your pics. They shoot EVERYTHING! then sift through them and upload best shots, thousands of them, takes couple days before they get uploaded, seems like full time job
What you see on their website is low-res watermarked proofs (Pic that I posted of myself)
When you find yourself and if you like it you will buy it. That's how they make money, Daren (Killboy) came out and took group photo of the group I was with which later was offered for sale on variety of media (I didn't buy)

Is it any fun? It looks like an amazing strip of road, but given the reputation, it seems like it would just be a source of frustration with cops and traffic.

You're missing the humour of a truck with no trailer being tagged "oversize load".JoJoLesh wrote:Having never seen one of these cameras, just how does this guy's setup work? Is it an automated system? There seems to be many shots of truly uninspiring rides. Look at the car/truck section. It seems he photo'ed anybody making that bend, including folks just passing through maybe on their daily drives. Is this just an unmanned target tracking setup? I just don't see a persons thought path that says, "Here is a minivan closing at a truly conservative speed, I bet that person would like a photo line of their driving!"

Fun? Hell yeah! best run I had was on Wednesday nigh after it stopped raining and the only other vehicles on the Gap were T-Rexes, no cops or photographers, very little traffic. Went over Friday mid-day and it sucked balls...Rabbit_Fighter wrote:Is it any fun? There are much better roads out there, not as "good" statistically i.e. less turn per mile but the riding sooooo much better since there is no one around!
I explored the region on my own and it was good, couple month later came back to visit the Gamma guy and he took me on the tour of his favorite roads, that was some experience!!
here's a section for Blue Ridge parkway

Re: don't forget to wave
That is funny, also they banned trucks from the Gap, probably about a year now, in reality they limited the length of the trailer, short semis can still go over. I'ts pretty remote place but if you are just on the other side it's a 100 mile detour to get from one side of the mountain to the other. I drove the road (from south up to the Gap) in a loaded Ram3500 (2 bikes in a dump body, 8,500 lbs max) and I was not having fun, can't imagine taking tractor-trailer up there even with a gun to my head.Jonny wrote:

I was looking at it from the truck drivers perspective, can't imagine being in your shoes... probably would never get on 2 wheels after that!Bigshankhank wrote:Tell me about it...MATPOC wrote:can't imagine taking tractor-trailer up there even with a gun to my head.

<======= I have a "mini-gap" up here in the frozen tundra, perhaps next season I should host another Hillbilly Hooligan Weekend. No cars, few cops, no driveways or intersections for about six miles.
