EVERYTHING IS MARKED UNREAD!!
First fix:
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that,
the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious
cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the
New Posts feature should take care of that.

Honestly, I carried my Benchmade everywhere I went in the UK -- got a few funny looks from friends who commented "y'know, the coppers won't like that much," but I planned on playing the dumb Yankee tourist.
But again, drives home the need for "disposable" blades.
And yeah, the whole ban on blades in the UK is just STUPID. I mean, COM'ON...

I have a Buck that was a gift from my father. Gave it to me when I was 12. I don't carry it.
I had a Gerber I carried for awhile, but dropped it into Lake Chelan last summer and didn't have time to dive for it. It was 20 feet deep so my chances of finding it would have been slim anyway.
Now I just carry a banana.

I have a couple of Columbia Rivers, an 8 in k-bar w/ a tanto blade, a mk-3 navy dive knife, and some teeny thing like the k.i.s.s., but can't remember it's name.
I don't always carry a blade, but sometimes I carry a gun.

I usually have a Benchmade 9050 on me although I haven't seen it for a couple weeks so I have been carrying my old Buck.
One of these days I would like to pick up a Lone Wolf Harsey D2 auto. I got to play with one once. The mechanism is pretty neat.

They're nice blades and all, but you hit the point of diminishing returns pretty quickly. I mean, you can buy just as much knife for $200 as $400 easily. Hell, I'm talking about trying to keep is closer to $100!
Think of it this way: if you scratch it, will you cry? If I had a $400 and scratched it, I would -- so I'll never buy one.
YMMV

But do they "not run out of bullets" any better than a $100 knife? How about two $100 knives? Or three? I'll bet any quantity of money that my $150 Benchmade "doesn't run out of bullets" any "better" (?) than a $400 MicroTek. And if you're gonna use it "that much," you should probably have a fixed blade.
And if you're getting a fixed blade, you still don't need to spend $400.
*shrug*
Eh, I suppose on a certain level it's just "men jewelry." Like watches.
"It's functional so it's not jewelry!"
"Riiiight."
Ah well. All that said, I've heard nothing but good things about the MicroTek knives -- they're as smooth, reliable, and sturdy as anything else on the market. My ONLY criticism is of the price.

WWI Army issue replica in any state that has open carry. Works for just about anything I want it to work for, and has lasted me for years and years....and years.
Other than that, cheap folding knives. Use it until it breaks, the blade chips, whatever...throw it away and get another one.

As far as Microtechs go, yes they are expensive, but try and think of any other quality out the front blade. I can't. I can think of a metric shit ton of great folders for sub $250 that would last a lifetime. If there is a quality OTF blade for that price, I wouldn't think twice about paying that much. They really have a monopoly on that style of knife.
Awhile back, Microtech said that they were getting out of making knives and changing production to focus on
this. Not sure if that's still true since I can't find anything that supports it now. They may have changed their minds about it.

Current carry knife is a SOG Flash Tanto. I have owned benchmade, Spyderco, and Gerbers.
My favorite was the Spyderco Police model in aluminum Tufram handle, but some ass stole it and the damn thing is so rare that even if I am willing to pay the price it's hard to find. I used to call it the Urban Machete.
My next will most likely be another SOG but with a metal handle this time, slimmer in the pocket.

Ran into a friend of mine today, martial arts instructor, knife/gun nut. Asked him if he had any reccomendations for a knife, I'm thinking of getting a new one. Before I even finish asking the question he has this big, black, scary looking pig sticker in his hand. A CRKT SFG, M16 or something like that, anyone here have one?
