Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Sorry. I would have just deleted the post, but it wouldn't let me. I felt the need to vent, vented, then felt weird about it. I probably shouldn't have deleted it.

My brother died of a heroin overdose a a couple weeks ago. He and I were extremely close, however, years of drug addiction will strain a relationship (to put it mildly). It is kind of a complicated thing to discuss with a lot of friends and family, since everyone has their take on things, and I felt more comfortable venting about some things here. There's also things I have a tough time discussing publicly, since it is extremely painful for my parents.

Anyway, after it was done, I felt weird. . . like I was dumping depressing shit in everybody's laps. There's a reason I felt inclined to unload here and certainly don't mean to sell anybody short by retracting.

Fuckin' hell. I saw that he'd passed, but didn't know how. My deepest condolences.

I'm taking a couple days to put on some long, brain clearing miles on the 22nd/23rd, to either the Oregon coast or the east side depending on what the weather decides to do. Just me and maybe one other guy, you're more than welcome to come along if you're feeling up for it/think it would help. Just let me know.

i hadn't actually seen the deleted post and want to confess to my flippancy and apologize for it.

there is little in supporting words i can offer. loosing a parent is something i dread, but loosing a sibling i can't even imagine.

when life kicks you down, and you need someone to dump the black stuff on, just to get it of your chest, that isn't just what friends are for. someone who will let you vent your soul like that, and in return will only ask what he can do, that is the definition of a friend. it's what all around here have been to me. this is the place to let it out.
if you still feel it inappropriate to do it publicly, feel free to pm me. i have no experience in giving advise or comfort in such situations, but i'll listen. sometimes, that alone helps, i know it has helped me.

Thanks Thom. Not sure I'll be able to make it, but appreciate the offer and will keep it in mind.

Der Golgo, absolutely no apologies necessary.

I've been through the ringer myself with this and have lost some close friends to it. Feel free to vent at me via PM if you'd rather not here. I've always got an ear for those in need.

Yikes. Sorry to hear, RF. :(

And like Golgo said, this is a good place to vent.

Good luck dealing with your folks too -- my Brother in Law died a few years ago under "awkward circumstances," and M's folks are still trying to sort their heads out about the whole thing. I have no real wisdom to impart other than perhaps "be patient" both with them and with yourself.

I think that venting of any sort is pretty much encouraged here.

Very sorry to hear of your loss.

Dude if I lost this place to vent I'd be gator chow. where else can you guarantee at least one well meaning sarcastic response to your rant?

Sorry to hear about your loss, I can't imagine what your dealing with, but I also can't imagine anything that motorcycles don't make at least a little better. I probably cant do shit for you, but if you'd like me to try, or blatantly tell you no, cause I'm a dick, PM me.

RF, so sorry to hear about your brother.

Also, I'm very sorry about my smartarse reply earlier. I didn't see the original post and certainly didn't intend what was a classless, throwaway remark.
