As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Waiting for my wife to call from NJ. She's at her father's bedside. It could be in an hour, could be tomorrow. He stopped eating a few days ago, hasn't been lucid for a while. Her sisters are traveling, they should be there by now. Maybe she'll call at bedtime, or maybe in the morning. I'll tell her I've been walking the dog, tell her about something funny the cat did, tell her how good it was that she could be there. Then I'll probably need to drive down.

Just went audiobook shopping.
Finished the biography of Dr. Max Jacobson today (the original Dr. Feelgood - if it was a celebrity in the US in the 1960s, Jacobson was shooting them up with methamphetamin ... ).
What audiobook did I buy now?
Absolute Pandemonium: The Autobiography
by non other than Brian Blessed.
Am I particularly interested in Brian Blessed or his work? Not really, now. I know him from Blackadder and ... yeah, from Blackadder.
But this is not just the audiobook version of something written by Brian Blessed - it is read by him!
He could read the damn phone book for all I care, his performance is impressive from the moment he opens his mouth. So fuck it, I bought the audiobook for the sole reason of Brian Blessed reading the damn thing, ha.

im wondering how to swing having a boyfriend (and apparently damn fine transgender services) in Norfolk virginia, vs having an arguably bigger cluster of makerspaces and other life-building opportunities in kansas (and from my rememberings of Kansas, patch-wrecked to no transgender services). ..... If i even have a choice as to going back to KS.

given the choice between the two, i'd also recommend virginia, but neither is particularly compelling. virginia, by virtue of the arlington area (i hear there's some other stuff going on around that area too) is very cosmopolitan and surprisingly progressive. well, in some ways.

also i knew a particularly beautiful girl in high school named virginia. which doens't matter to you, but it's a fond memory.

I'm writing on a pad so please forgive brevity and typeos.

Northern Virginia is a good place to be. The DC metro is pretty hip and cosmopolitan. Once you get away from NoVA, however, it gets very banjo very quickly. The Tidewater/Norfolk area is VERY conservative politically. Do your research with locals to get a better feel. Gazza used to live down there but he's not very active on here any more.

I live in NoVA so I'd be happy to help provide info if I can, just PM me. :)

The day began at the neurologist.
A trainee informed me that, coincidentally, she had the same visual impairments as I. She then proceeded to scribble on my head and stick needles into my skull, as you do.
Good news: my optic nerves are neither impaired, nor inflamed. Most importantly, no atrophy going on. Can't see any better, the brain is still as broken as before, but I'm not going blind in a hurry.
The test was done because my ophthalmologist had found my optic nerves looking pale. He hadn't ordered the test, mind, he had just told me to come back next year for a check-up. I got the test because I mentioned this to my neurologist. Apparently, the ophthalmologists don't like ordering these tests because only the neurologists can do them.
Also found out that the debilitating headache of the past week that yesterday had been identified as not-sinusitis is caused by some indeterminate irritation of some facial nerves in my forehead. Get to take pills tonight, finally.

Currently assembling furniture. Of the four "solid-wood construction" chairs I bought only seven years ago, two are now entirely unusable. Because the "solid wood" is soft as putty and goes to pieces, eventually.
Spent about three hours walking across town after the neurologist visit. Because, genius me, I kept missing the tram and couldn't convince myself to wait fifteen minutes for the next one when the walk is just as long. Or short.
Just assembled two of the four new, steel-construction chairs I ended up buying. Rewarded myself for my efforts with a treat from the christmas market. Devilishly overpriced, but devilishly delicious, fresh strawberries on a wooden skewer, the whole affair covered in chocolate.
And opiates. After three hours of walking about, town, and another hour in the big furniture store and buying groceries after that, I can feel every damn nut and bold.

Still gotta put together two chairs. Design is pretty simple, straightforward, unfancy and FIX-IT-WITH-A-HAMMER simple. Only downsides: hitting the threads finagled away in the wooden base of the actual seat, and the little plastic gobbins and the end of each hollow chair leg. They don't sit very tight.
But this gives me excuse to first wrap something with duct tape and then pound it with my rubber mallet. So all is good.

Borrowing design cues from Dexter, I closed off a portion of the garage as a separate kill room so I can play with my wood in warm, kerosene-heated privacy during the cold winter.

I've been teaching myself how to work said wood with hand tools. Christmas gift for daughter: doll trundle bed.

Now I'm teaching myself how to sew the blankets, sheets, pillows, and mattress covers.

I've been having problem with my radialis nerve. I feared I'd have to get surgery to have the screws removed from my right arm. One wrong move and, I try to stretch my arm, I can only describe it like BURNING GASOLINE HORNETS pain.
Some back massaging and not sitting in my chair at the office brought relief.

While inquiring with brother GG what the pain make go away thing brother Skot got him was called, he recommended a percussion massager. I bought one.

Just now, I set it to the automatic, where it cycles through all 21 massage programs in a few minutes, turned it to ten and let it go until the overheat protection shut it off, almost thirty minutes I think.

Pretty sure I'll have some bruises on my back in the morning. This is a device I can't use after 10pm, due to our noise-pollution laws. This thing punches WAY above its weight and makes noise like a slightly muffled jackhammer.
And, now, my right shoulder hurts.
But that damn radialis nerve is QUIET!! :D :D

Thanks for the recommendation, GG!
