I went to bed pretty late last night, finishing a project.
Wake up, hey, nice sleep, and the alarm hasn't even gone off! I wonder what time it is ... why can't I see the nice, big, green seven-digit LED numerals of my radio-alarm-clock? Let's have some light ... why won't the light turn on?! WHAT TIME IS IT?!?!
8 AM. Phew, only an hour later than the alarm should have woken me, an hour to get ready before heading to work. All is well.
Put on bathrobe and shoes and head to the circuit breakers in the hallway.
Flip.
ZZRRAP. Clunk.
Go back into the apartment and unplug every damn thing on that circuit.
Flip.
Good.
Plug stuff in, everything works, heheay! Even got enough time to check email and things before heading out ... why isn't the red light coming on when I press the power button on my most prized possession, my desktop computer?
Had to dig out my tablet to write an email to my lawyer I had to get out today, go to work.
Against all odds, I got to fuck off home early, reduce my overtime account. Unplug computer, clean the damn thing (ahem ...) put in bag, hop in taxi, hit the nearest computer hardware store as much as an hour before they close. Have my diagnosis of fritzed power supply confirmed, buy a new one, hear home.
Strip the heads of the screws holding in the old power supply, curse at a crafty assembly person using the graphics card to hold the CPU power cable in place, spend nearly an hour wiring everything up to speck and making things all neat and tidy.
Because of the crowded conditions in the case, the power cables for some of the four harddrives I have in there would, eventually, always come off, so I hadn't even kept the side cover on the case anymore.
But now, determined I had done nothing wrong, had connected all the fans and whatnot perfectly, I put it together as one piece and bolted the covers in place. Then, put the machine in the corner in which it resides, plugged everything in at once and hit the power button.
Sod's law tells us that, at this point, it should either not have worked or, later, something should have failed to come on. A harddrive, a fan, something.
Nope. Working perfectly.
The fritzed display on my SMOKtech xCubeII box-mod that had annoyed and frustrated and inconvenienced me all day also came back to live, I managed to fix the air-leak on my Hypersquonk bottom-feeder tank, the new acrylic tank-window seems to withstand the juices I use and that will crack ANY polycarbonate withing days.
After my boss had told me I could fuck off early, even though I had explained to her in great detail how it is a not a life-or-death matter for me to hit the computer store, this is really damn weird.
Maybe it's a good sign for the project I mentioned.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?
I said I have a big stick.
